Milford City Hall Celebrates 100 Years An Evening of Free Fire, Ice and Hypnotic Comedy Friday, February 19, 2016

On February 19th, 1915, as dawn broke over the City of Milford, City Hall caught fire. According to town records, the local fire department, with help from neighboring towns and cities, did their best to fight the fire, but high winds defeated their attempts leaving the building destroyed.

Reacting to the surprise fire, the City of Milford answered the call to rebuild City Hall and in less than two years, “the one-story red brick structure with a trim clock tower, in modern colonial style, was completed.”  The book, “History of Milford” states that “On June 17, 1916, more than a thousand people gathered beneath lowering skies to participate in the ceremony of the laying of the cornerstone for Milford’s New Town Hall,” the current town hall that exists to this day.

On February, 19th 2016, over a century after the devastating fire, the City of Milford will pay tribute to honor and commemorate all who served in the wake of that unfortunate day. Join Mayor Blake at City Hall from 5:30 pm-8:30 pm for what promises to be a remarkable evening. Events for the evening will include a bonfire, ice sculpting, a family friendly hypnotist show at 7:00 pm by certified Master Hypnotist, Dan LaRosa and so much more.

Admission is free, and seating is limited so be sure to reserve your seats. Your receipt is your ticket(s). Please print your receipt when you check out and bring it to the evening’s event.

On June 17th, 2016, the City will celebrate the 100th year anniversary of City Hall. Stay tuned for a schedule of fun-filled events. Please mark your calendars to join Mayor Blake for a celebration rivaling that from a century ago.

Mayor Blake commented on the upcoming celebrations, stating, “The story of City Hall contributes to the rich history of Milford. We are fortunate to be in a place to simultaneously commemorate and celebrate such a wonderful part of our history.”

The Mayor also encourages Milford residents to visit City Hall all throughout the year to continue learning about the remarkable architectural facets and stories of the building. City Hall is opened Monday-Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
