Milford Ice Pavilion’s year Learn To Play Hockey program is designed to introduce beginners to the sport of hockey. Boys and girls 3 – 12 years old are introduced to the basic skills of skating, puck control, passing and shooting. Children learn by participating in practice drills and informal scrimmages that are directed by USA Hockey certified instructors who are on the ice at all times. The goal of the program is to ensure that the child’s introduction to hockey is a positive experience. Team concepts are learned as well as player skills. All while gaining confidence and having fun.
During each LTP Hockey session, participants are divided into three separate groups based upon their age and ability. The groups participate in drills and, while always leaving time for on-ice games at the end of the session.
As the player’s skills grow and they progress through the three groups, a player is ready to move from the third group into organized team play in the MIP’s House League (where they learn and practice concepts of competitive team play, sportsmanship, respect for teammates, coaches, and officials) or they can try-out for a travel team with Southern Connecticut Youth Hockey which plays of the Milford Ice Pavilion.
